Yes, it could be a sticking cam chain tensioner, all that may be required would be to remove it from the bottom of the cylinder and separate the inner piston from the tensioner, clean it off, move it around and reinstall.

Technically yes, since it's stored in "non volatile" memory…but when I'm referencing the RDC control unit, I mean the part that is in the wiring of the CanBus of the bike.

Just an observation of the first picture. The laser etched block is inward toward the other cam and for a proper check of timing, the laser marks need to be outward, apart from each other.

If you can only get the flats of the cams on the cylinder you are checking parallel with some kind of straight edge…(just close is OK) then the you are on the base circle of the cam lobes and will get an accurate reading of the clearance between the cam and the follower. Be careful not to be ...
